Welcome
If you’re here because your child was recently diagnosed—or you’re wondering if they might be autistic—welcome.
Take a deep breath.
You don’t have to learn everything today, and you don’t have to do it alone.
At HARE (Hopeful Autism Resources & Education), our mission is to help families find trusted autism resources they didn’t know existed. Whether you’re looking for therapies, insurance guidance, adaptive equipment, financial assistance, or simply a place to start, you’re in the right place.
Every autistic child is unique. There is no single “right” path, and it’s okay to take things one step at a time.
âś… Your First 5 Steps
1. Save Every Evaluation and Document
Create a folder—digital or paper—for evaluations, medical records, school paperwork, and therapy reports. You’ll use these often.
2. Contact Your Insurance Company
Ask what autism-related services are covered, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, ABA therapy (if appropriate for your family), and any required referrals or prior authorizations.
3. Learn About Early Intervention or School Services
If your child is under 3, check your state’s Early Intervention program. If they’re school-aged, ask about an evaluation for special education services or an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
4. Explore Financial Support
Many families qualify for assistance they don’t realize exists, including Medicaid waivers, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), grants, and insurance-covered equipment. We’ll help you find those resources.
5. Give Yourself Grace
An autism diagnosis can bring relief, questions, excitement, grief, or all of those emotions at once. Whatever you’re feeling is valid. You don’t have to have all the answers today.
đź’ś Remember This
Autism isn’t something that needs to be “fixed.”
Your child is still the same wonderful person they were yesterday.
This journey isn’t about changing who they are—it’s about helping them thrive, communicate, and live a life that honors their unique strengths and needs.
